Online Databases

The library has the following subscription databases available to Oswego Public Library District patrons. Some are available for use only in the library, while others may also be accessed from a home computer. Unless otherwise indicated, all databases may be accessed using your Oswego Public Library District's 14-digit library card number as your password/user ID.

	America's News Search current and archived coverage of issues, events, people, government, sports and more with the largest collection of full-text U.S. newspapers. Includes staff-written articles, obituaries, editorials, announcements, real estate and other sections from 2000 titles across the United States. Find archives for the Aurora Beacon-News, Chicago Sun-Times, Joliet Herald News, Naperville Sun and hundreds of other Chicagoland and Illinois titles.
	Auto Repair Reference Center Regularly-updated repair and maintenance information for over 37,000 vehicles from 1945 to the present. All of the content has been created by ASE-certified technicians.
	Bookflix Pairs classic video storybooks and related nonfiction eBooks. Reinforces early reading skills for ages pre-K through 3rd grade.
	Chicago Tribune Historical Archive Full-text Chicago Tribune articles from the 19th and 20th centuries, including obituaries and death notices.
	Contemporary Authors Biographical and bibliographical information for more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors.
	EBSCO General Topics & Health Searches (MasterFile Premier) A multidisciplinary database providing full text for nearly 1,750 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and 164,424 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 453,000 photos, maps & flags.

	Illinois Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970 (user name: oswego -- password: welcome) Large-scale plans of Illinois cities and towns, providing detailed property and land-use information.
	Legal Self-Help Center: Kendall County Provides access to Illinois legal information and help for residents regarding legal forms and information on the legal process in Kendall County. Covers more than 25 different areas of the law and also provides links to other free legal resources.
	LearningExpress Library (user name: 14-digit library card # -- password: select your own password) Academic, military, career, and citizenship practice tests, including GED, ACT, SAT, GRE, and ASVAB. Also computer software tutorials, job search resources, and much more.
	Literary Reference Center Comprehensive database containing plot summaries, literary criticism, author biographies and interviews, library journals, book reviews, and much more. Also included is the full-text of more than 60,000 poems, more than 15,000 short stories, and more than 7,100 classic texts.
	Mango Languages An online language learning system that teaches conversational skills in a fun, easy, and effective way. It includes instruction in the world’s most popular and widely used languages as well as a number of English as a Second Language courses, each designed for a specific native language.
	Morningstar Investment Research Center A resource for researching stocks and mutual funds and analyzing your personal investment portfolio.
	Muzzy Do you or your child want to learn a new language? Muzzy features video content, interactive games and exercises, and much more. Muzzy is a fun way for all ages to immerse themselves in a new language. The languages currently available are English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish with more languages to be added.
	Novelist K-8 Plus All the same features of NovelList geared specifically for the K-8 reading audience.
	Novelist Plus Find your next great fiction or nonfiction read here! Lists of award-winning books and recommended reads, author readalikes, book discussion guides, reviews, series listed in order, and more.
	Points of View Reference Center Multiple viewpoints on current controversial issues. For each topic there is an objective overview or description, an argument, an opposing argument, & a Critical Thinking Guide.
	Public Record Real estate sales, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and new business licenses in Kane, Kendall, Will, DuPage, and other nearby counties.
	ReferenceUSA Online directory of information on U.S. residences, businesses and healthcare providers. Business listings may include names of executives, number of employees, SIC codes, sales volume, business expenditures, and much more.
	Searchasaurus for Kids Animated interface with a dinosaur theme that encourages students to enhance and develop basic search methods
	Teacher Reference Center from EBSCO Provides indexing and abstracts for 280 periodicals. In addition, 96% of journals indexed in TRC are peer-reviewed.
	TrueFlix Builds knowledge of subject-area content, and cultivate skills through the inquiry process. For 3rd-5th grade.
	Universal Class Over 500 free online continuing education classes, available any time on your schedule. These self-paced, non-credit personal and professional development classes are available in a wide range of subject areas, including computers, business, home and garden, health and medicine, hobbies, and much more. 	OCLC FirstSearch Databases A wide range of databases, including indexes, abstracts, online full-text articles, nationwide library holdings, and Web resources. All the databases listed below are available via the OCLC FirstSearch Website
	Article First (FirstSearch) An index of articles from the contents pages of journals, showing libraries that hold the magazines cited.
	Clase/Periodica CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities. PERIÃ³DICA covers journals specializing in science and technology. Offers access to more than 400,000 bibliographic citations from documents published in 2,600 scholarly journals published in the Spanish, Portuguese, French and English languages.
	Electronic Books OCLC catalog of online electronic books available through libraries worldwide
	Electronic Collections Online (ECO) An index of articles from scholarly journals, showing libraries that hold the journals cited.
	ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) Articles on the subject of education from the U.S. Department of Education, most full text.
	GPO Monthly Catalog Covers all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). Includes a bibliographic citation in each record.
	MEDical Line (MedJournals Online) An index of articles in medical journals, showing libraries that hold the journals cited.
	OAIster Union catalog of digital resources. Contains digital resources from open archive collections. Represents multidisciplinary resources from more than 1000 contributors worldwide. Records contain a digital object link allowing users access to the object in a single click.
	OCLC PapersFirst OCLC index of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Covers every published congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop and meeting received by The British Library Document Supply Centre.
	OCLC WorldCat Dissertations and Theses OCLC catalog of dissertations and theses available in OCLC member libraries. This database provides fast and convenient access to the dissertations and theses available in OCLC member libraries. Many of these are available electronically, at no charge, directly from the publishing institution.
	Proceedings First An OCLC index of worldwide conference proceedings. Covers every published congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop and meeting received by The British Library Document Supply Centre. Contains in each record a list of the papers presented at each conference.
	SILC (State of Illinois Library Catalog) Contains the records from 100's of local Illinois library catalogs. You can use this database to locate material in most Illinois libraries.
	World Almanac Includes full-text of the World Almanac and Book of Facts, Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia, and three other specialized almanacs.
	WorldCat Access the most comprehensive and up-to-date catalog of resources located in U.S. and world libraries.
